Our top shade performers –

Woodland plants:
We love them all! We offer a wide variety of Wisconsin native woodland plants from reputable sources. Beautiful trilliums, Virginia bluebells, jack-in-the-pulpit and wild ginger are just a few of our woodland offerings.

For the earliest of spring color nothing beats the Hellebore. Hellebores can start blooming as early as February some winters! This year are pleased to offer new cultivars like Hellebore ‘Brandywine’.

Are a wonderful addition for the fall perennial garden. They start blooming in September and can bloom all the way to frost.

Ferns: Add a sense of serenity to any shade garden. Maidenhair fern, lady fern and ‘Ghost’ fern are just three of our favorites from our fern collection.

Want to grow a perennial ornamental grass but have too much shade? Try one of our cultivars of sedge (Carex) or Japanese Forest grass (Hakenochloa macra) for added color and texture in your shade garden.

Coneflowers: Are all the rage and it seems no garden is complete without at least one of these beauties. We offer the native coneflowers as well as the newest cultivars like ‘Tiki Torch’ and the Big Sky series.

Geranium ‘Rozanne’: Is the Perennial Plant of the Year and it’s easy to see why. This long blooming perennial sports intense violet-blue flowers throughout the summer.

One of the up and coming perennials is Baptisia. This tough as nails perennials is very long-lived, has lupine-like flowers in May and attractive blue green foliage. Look for the native Baptisia australis or one of the many new cultivars like ‘Twilight Prairieblues’, ‘Starlight’ or ‘Purple Smoke’.

Ornamental grasses: Provide structure, texture, movement and winter interest in the garden. You will be sure to find an ornamental grass you love from our extensive collection.
